Orlando and the 15 Year War on Terror – June 14, 2016

Talk on Sunday’s massacre in  an Orlando gay nightclub  has focused Presidential candidates back onto the so called War on Terrorism or “the new face of the war on terror.”  This war is now in its 15 year and what at one time seemed to be exceptional is now the normal.

Today we are in conversation with veteran journalist Mark Danner, who argues in his book “Spiral: Trapped in the Forever War, that the 15 year war on terror appears to have no end in sight.  Fear has created what Danner calls the sense of “permanent emergency” among the American public and administration alike in keeping the wars in the Middle East percolating.

Mark Danner is Chancellor’s Professor of English and Journalism at the University of California at Berkeley and James Clarke Chace Professor of Foreign Affairs and the Humanities at Bard
