Understanding the Flores Agreement & White Supremacy’s Connection to Classical History

Today we dive into what’s known as the Flores Settlement Agreement that governs how the U.S. detains children who come into the country without proper authorization. The Trump administration is proposing major changes that could include indefinite detention of children and denying them education while being detained. We speak to Raquel E. Aldana, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Diversity and a Professor of Law at UC Davis.

Then, in the second half of today’s program, we talk about Western classical history and the connection to today’s Alt-Right with Classist Sarah Teets. She is a post-doctoral fellow in the College of Arts and Science at the University of Virginia. Her article Classical Slavery and Jeffersonian Racism: Charlottesville, One Year Later can be found online here.
