This is the 4th in our Electronic Music Series, our first needledrop show in the series- all new material/represses including Burial and several artists from the intentionally obscure “xpq?” imprint. Mostly soundscapes derived from the EDM scene, this show bridges the divide between dance and ambient electronics.
A Box of Toys
12:00 am Tuesdays
A Box of Toys is a radio program dedicated to the tireless pursuit of obscure musical artifacts. The explosive growth of DIY digitized archiving and recording means that now, more than any previous time, we can find lost and buried treasures, filter them through discerning ears, and present them to you in a way that renders them coherent and relevant. Join us on this journey through the dusty corners and hidden pathways to bring you the most creative part of our musical human cultural experience.
A Box Of Toys explores the golden age of the cassette by sampling the DIY tape machine that existed between 1979 and 1985- a period of unprecedented creativity in “popular music” (to use the term loosely). This is a truly wild ride through the most obscure and interesting cassette catalogues from that period.
Our second ever needle-drop show hits with a splash of widely varying material from avant grade, to EDM, to jazz, to post punk. Among the mishmash you will find Burial, Black Flower, No Nice Sala, and Gaslamp Killer. Come along for the journey through the spiral groove from the vinyl stacks of Chris Cory
