Asian Women Telling Truths

Okinawan feminist activist Suzuyo Takazato,  Co-Chair Okinawa Women Act Against Military Violence, discusses the deadly ecological and social consequences of the massive US military presence on Okinawa. Okinawan Women Act formed exactly 22 years ago, in response to the rape of a 12-year-old girl by three US soldiers.

And we speak with San Francisco writer, teacher and activist Canyon Sam, who was the youngest member of the Unbound Feet Collective, a groundbreaking troupe of Chinese American feminist writers in the late 1970s and early ’80s. Canyon Sam will join three other collective members, Nellie Wong, Kitty Tsui and Genny Lim, for two reunion readings this week.
