Womens Magazine – June 10, 2019 – Preparing for Post-Roe America; Marie Harrison Fought for Her People; Previewing This Year’s Queer Film Fest

This week on KPFA Women’s Magazine, we speak with Robin Marty, author of Handbook for a Post-Roe America about what we should be doing to prepare for the end of Roe. Robin says we should look at it as an opportunity to build a stronger movement and improve access to all health care options for all women, and suggests concrete ways we can do that.

Then Jovelyn, Lisa and I preview a few of the 174 films from 38 countries on offer at this year’s Frameline LGBT International Film Festival, the largest and oldest queer cultural event in the world. We’ll talk about documentaries and narratives, US and foreign films, screening in San Francisco, Oakland and Berkeley between June 20 and 30.
And we pay tribute to Marie Harrison, who held down the fight to demand cleanup of the toxic Hunter’s Point shipyards and shut down the PG&E plant in Bayview/Hunter’s Point for 40 years. Ms.Harrison was a community organizer for Green Action, a candidate for District 10 Supervisor, and a frequent contributor to the San Francisco Bay View.
