Voices of Independence

Voices of Independence was a day-long special on July 4th – KPFAs version of Independence Day – where we carefully culled and curated material from our vast archival collection, material that runs far and wide across an array of politics and culture, from music to the arts – bold voices presented amidst moments and movements…and change. Today, we’d like to share parts of speech given by James Baldwin that was part of our day.  This particular speech was given in 1963 at the Second Baptist Church in Los Angeles, shortly after the release of his masterpiece, Fire The Next Time.

Hosted by Mitch Jeserich and Kevin Cartwright.
