U.C. Berkeley police announce cancellation of tonight’s planned speech by  Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos after a crowd of more than a thousand surround the building. Protesters throw rocks and light fires; police deploy tear gas and rubber coated steel bullets. President Trump says Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell should use the so-called “nuclear option” and do away with the 60 vote filibuster rule if Democrats obstruct his Supreme Court nomination of Neil Gorsuch. The full Senate votes to confirm Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State. Two Republican Senators,  Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, say they will vote against the nomination of Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary, putting her confirmation at risk. A Seattle City Council committee approves Councilmember Kshama Sawant’s proposal to cut the city’s financial ties with Wells Fargo Bank over its funding of the Dakota Access Pipeline. Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos whose campus appearances have prompted physical clashes and even a shooting appears at UC Berkeley this evening. A large protest is planned.
