The Senate Judiciary Committee votes along party lines to send to the Senate floor the nomination of  Neil Gorsuch to serve on the Supreme Court. Democrats pick up enough opponents for a successful filibuster. Republicans are likely to change Senate rules. An explosion aboard a St. Petersburg subway train kills at least 10 people and injures dozens. Another device is found and defuse before detonation. California Governor Jerry Brown appears before the state legislature to lobby for his proposed 52 billion dollar plan for gasoline taxes and fees to fix the state’s crumbling roads and bridges. The California Senate votes on a series of bills that would create the strongest immigrant protections in the country. The key measure would effectively make California a sanctuary state.
