The Trump administration intensifies its effort to crack down on sanctuary cities that refuse to comply with federal immigration authorities, sending letters to nine jurisdictions threatening to withhold grant money unless they document cooperation. Hours after Arkansas carries out its first execution in nearly 12 years, two more death row inmates ask a judge to halt their executions, saying their poor health could make the lethal injections especially painful. A widespread power outage in San Francisco strands people in elevators and affects traffic in the city. A pre-Earth Day action at the San Francisco office of the Environmental Protection Agency calls for expanded protections — not the cutbacks planned by the Trump Administration.
