The recent crisis at Red Hill has brought national attention to the urgent need to protect freshwater supply in Oahu, in the highly militarized US colonial state of Hawai’i. However, what is not well-known is how common a problem this is for those “living along the fenceline” of U.S. bases.
Love Letters to Water is a public awareness campaign on Instagram from March 8 (International Women’s Day) to March 22 (World Water Day). This radio program features the voices of women water protectors who tell the stories of military water contamination in their respective locations as well as their calls to action for the campaigns to protect the water in Okinawa, Guåhan (Guam), Korea, the Philippines, Hawaiʻi, and other sites where fresh water is at risk. Produced by Gwyn Kirk.
