What is Democracy? How Do We Get It?

Democracy is meant to be ruled by the voice of the poor, and yet our current system is built to protect and amplify the voices of the already rich and powerful. What many consider to be a democracy is not so. What is democracy really? What do we mean when we use the term? And can it ever truly exist? Today, these questions are thoroughly explored in a discussion with Astra Taylor.

Guest: Astra Taylor is a Canadian-American activist, filmmaker, and author. She has made such documentary films as Zizek! and Examined Life. She is also the author of several books on politics with feminist ideals, including The People’s Platform, and her latest, Democracy May Not Exist, But We’ll Miss it When it’s Gone which we use to examine democracy and its history.
