Black History Month: Featuring Paul Robeson

Paul Robeson was an American singer, actor, and Civil Rights activist. He became politically involved in response to the Spanish Civil War, fascism, and social injustices. His advocacy of anti-imperialism, affiliation with communism, and criticism of the United States government caused him to be blacklisted during the McCarthy era.

  1. I want my public library to have the Paul Robeson boxed set from Criterion (narrated by Sidney Poitier), but I don’t have enough money to put up a $200 pledge. Could I pledge $50, and another 7 people pledge $50, and we send the package to the Oakland Public Library?
