International Women’s Day 2019 (Hour 14) – Celebrating Bay Area Women Musicians

7 – 9pm – Celebrating Bay Area Based Women Musicians: Melanie DeMore, Willa Mamet, Emma’s Revolution and Sistah’s of the Drum (Produced and Hosted by Lisa Dettmer)

The Bay Area has a rich herstory of women’s music – and by that I mean music created for women audiences, often lesbian and often feminist and at least not mainstream.  Not that music you hear nowadays that is simply music by women but is not any different than the music by men. And to celebrate that we feature 4 women’s groups from the Bay Area;  Sistahs of the Drum is a group of African American women drummers  that represent the essence of traditional African roots in harmony with their African-American cultural rearing; Melanie De More,  founding member of the Grammy nominated vocal ensemble Linda Tillery and the Cultural Heritage Choir, teacher of traditional Gullah Music, mult-italented singer, composer, performer, choral instructor, and “vocal activist; Willa Mamet, quirky and Queer  feminist folk singer and song writer;  and the eclectic folk rock activist duo Emma’s Revolution.  We will hear two hours of luscious, powerful, raw, inspiring, unique women’s music from the Bay Area.
