On today’s show we hear from Dr. James Taylor about the impeachment hearings and later celebrated journalist Matt Taibbi talks about his latest book, Hate Inc.: Why Today’s Media Makes Us Despise One Another.
Taibbi says, Hate Inc., is “intended to be a rethink of Manufacturing Consent.” by Edward S. Herman and Noam Chomsky. Published in 1988, Chomsky and Herman, presented an analysis on how mass media works against democracy’s best interest. And with Hate Inc., Taibbi provides an updated look at the media landscape that has since moved from the sole domination of just print and broadcast television to major technological disruptions, first with cable and then with the internet, both of which altered the traditional pathways though which governments and big business try to manipulate public opinion.
