It’s sad that Democracy Now propagates the US/West’s propaganda line on the White Helmets as selfless humanitarians, sad but not surprising. After all, DN! was a major media cheerleader in the NATO (i.e., US) destruction of Libya, so why wouldn’t it perform the same role when it comes to Syria?
The “Syrian Civil Defense,” or White Helmets, stole the real Syrian Civil Defense’s name and are an extremeley well-funded PR creation of the West/US used to demonize the Syrian government and Russia. They are being used to propagandize the left/liberal West to go along w/ regime-change- based
intervention in Syria. They are embedded in Nusra, ISIS, and other so-called “rebel” groups and work hand in glove with (in effect, are part of) these groups when they’re not performing for the camera. This is the reason they’re not allowed in government-held parts of Syria, because they’re not neutral and are not humanitarians, not to mention that the real Syrian Civil Defense operates in those non-rebel-held areas.
DN!’s coverage completely dovetails w/ Sonali Kolhatkhar’s interview on Rising Up from a couple of weeks ago where she denigrates independent reporting in Syria.
Rick Sterling, Vanessa Beeley, Max Blumenthal have written articles that expose the White Helmets for who they are and that help cut through the West propaganda narrative on Syria.
