We begin with last night’s Republican presidential primary debate at which almost all the candidates denied global warming with one calling it a hoax while agreeing to support Trump for the 2024 presidency even if he were convicted and in jail. Joining us to discuss a party that has become a cult is Geoffrey Kabaservice, the director of political studies at the Niskanen Center in Washington DC as well as the author of several books including Rule and Ruin: The Downfall of Moderation and the Destruction of the Republican Party, from Eisenhower to the Tea Party.

Joining us to discuss the threat to American democracy when one of the two parties embraces authoritarianism and no longer accepts the results of elections is Jennifer McCoy, a professor of political science at Georgia State University and nonresident scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace where she focuses on political polarization and democratic resilience in the U.S. and around the world.. She recently was a senior core fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Budapest, Hungary and is the author, most recently, of Polarizing Polities: A Global Threat to Democracy.
