Welcome to the Staff Resource Pages!

As you may already know, KPFA is a listener sponsored radio station and we do not accept any corporate underwriting nor any money to promote corporations.  It is a privilege to be able to provide content, showcase points of views that are not normally heard on other media outlets and participate in the local, national and global conversations on topics affecting us as human beings.

Before you dive into this area, I want to make sure you understand the economic value of the station that you have access to and that every single one of us must do our part to ensure it continues to exist for future generations.  Our operating budget is around $4 million per year, which means it costs about $500 per hour to run the station.  If you have the privilege of access to airtime, a one hour per week show will cost about $26,000. Two hours per week is $52,000, three hours per week is $78,000, and so on and so forth.

In order for KPFA to grow, each show must do three things:

  1. Create high quality and engaging content that is accurate, objective and comprehensive on the topics it presents.
  2. Grow listenership: terrestrially and online.
  3. Raise funds for the station.
    • Actively participating during Fund Drives, or letting go of airtime for pitchers that can raise the needed funds.
    • Build the pool of new monthly subscribers.

With that said, the Managers are tasked with keeping the station running smoothly and the behind the scenes support staff is on hand to privide training, technical assistance and support to help you succeed in the above three tasks.

Within this area, you will find authoritative answers you need to successfully promote, produce and broadcast content on KPFA.  Click on the links below that best match the information you need.  If you can’t find it, please let us know and we can help you and we can improve these pages.
