May 29, 2018 – KQED Union Busting & Fight Against CCSF Racism

WorkWeek radio looks at the effort by the management of San Francisco public television station KQED to bust the union. The management has sent emails to all CWA NABET 51 members urging them to resign from the union so they can cross the picket lines if there is a strike. They are also seeking to outsource the work done by union members to non-union workers undermining their work.
Next, WorkWeek looks at the growing anger against racism against African American workers and other workers by the managers of City departments including the Department of Public Health DPH.
WorkWeek interviews SEIU 1021 Potrero Hill Health Center worker Cheryl Thornton who was retaliated against and improperly removed from her job. We also interview Brenda Barros who is the chapter president of SEIU 1021 San Francisco General Hospital. They discuss the effort to privatize jobs at at SFCC and drive out African American workers.
They also discuss the resolution by the San Francisco Labor Council opposing the systemic racism and calling on all mayoral candidates and San Francisco Supervisors to return Cheryl Thornton to her job.
