0:08 – Voters will go to the polls in Israel today for a run-off election amidst hardening right-wing ideology, threats against Palestine, and a deepening corruption scandal involving Benjamin Netanyahu. We’re joined by Khury Petersen-Smith (@kpYES) is the Michael Ratner Middle East Fellow at IPS. He researches U.S. empire, borders, and migration at the Institute for Policy Studies.

1:08 – Alameda and San Leandro Hospital nurses are set to go on a 1 day strike on Friday Sep 20. They’re protesting staffing shortages, unilateral changes to staffing and hiring practices, and bargaining in bad faith. We’re joined by Pete Castelli, a public sector division director of the CA Nurses Association (CNA), and Mawata Kamara is an emergency room nurse at San Leandro Hospital and a member of the CA Nurses Association (CNA).

1:20 – The Santa Clara County District Attorney raided the Sheriffs’ Office in a still secret investigation. 1:34 – The No New Jails Coalition is calling for the closure of San Francisco’s county jail at 850 Bryant. Advocates say people held there can be supported with access to affordable housing, mental healthcare, and diversion programs – for some 80% of the population in detention because they can’t afford cash bail. Furthermore, the jail has been deemed seismically unsafe since 1998, and has a myriad of structural, including leaking sewage. We’re joined by Andrew Szeto is a member of Critical Resistance, and Sam Lew is policy director with the Coalition on Homelessness, both members of the No New Jails Coalition.
