0:08 – This Thanksgiving, we want to bring one of the stories we’ve been most grateful to help tell — it’s an audio documentary from our own Lucy Kang that just won an Excellence in Journalism award from our region’s chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. It’s a story about one of the clusters of tents and RVs springing up on more and more stretches of unclaimed land around here. These places get covered — but usually only when there’s a fire, or an eviction. We wanted to do something different from air-dropping a reporter into a moment of crisis–we wanted to document what daily life is like. Lucy spent months visiting, building trust, pinning down facts with the city. Here’s her story, The Community of Grace, which originally aired in May 2019.
