Marcos is the son of the country’s former dictator of the same name. It is a remarkable rehabilitation for a family that fled the country in the face of a popular uprising in 1986 after keeping it under martial law for nearly a decade and being responsible for imprisoning, torturing, and killing tens of thousands of people.
