0:34 – We’re About to Learn More About the Cops. Darwin Bond Graham (@DarwinBondGrahais a staff writer with the East Bay Express and has been covering policing for nearly a decade. New laws to note:

  • AB 748: Police transparency. Introduced by Asm. Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) Requires that body camera footage be released within 45 days of a police shooting, or when an officer’s use of force causes death or great bodily harm
  • SB 1421: Police transparency Passed in 2018. Introduced by Sen. Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) Allows public access to police records in use-of-force cases, as well as investigations that confirmed on-the-job dishonesty or sexual misconduct.
  • SB 978 (Bradford-D): Starting January 1, 2020, POST and all local agencies must post on their website all current standards, policies, practices, operating procedures, and education and training materials that would otherwise be released via a PRA request.
