Sacramento teachers and classified workers victorious after 8-day strike, supported by students and families | SCTA

0:08 – Mass protests against the government in Sri Lanka amidst a curfew prompted the resignation of the entire cabinet except for the Prime Minister and President. The protests follow a snowballing crisis of economic issues, the pandemic, and borrowing on foreign reserves to pay national debt. We are joined by Sharika Thiranagama (@thirana1), Associate Professor of Anthropology at Stanford University, a Sri Lankan Refugee, and author of In My Mothers’ House: Civil War in Sri Lanka, to explore what Sri Lankans have been going through.

0:33 – The Alameda County District Attorney’s office released the results of their investigation to the June 2020 police killing of Erik Salgado. The investigation has led the DA’s office to bring no charges against the officers who shot Salgado. We are joined by George Galvis (@george_galvis), the Executive Director of Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice, along with Amanda Majil Blanco, the sister of Erik Salgado.

0:50 – Sacramento teachers and classified employees of the school district ended a strike on Sunday with significant wins after keeping schools closed for eight days. We are joined by workers who represent each union – Dan Schallock, Vice President for Sacramento City Unified School District SEIU chapter Vice President, and Shana Just, Science teacher at Luther Burbank High School, and strike captain with the Sacramento City Teachers Association.

1:08 – Elie Mystal (@ElieNYC), legal analyst and justice correspondent for The Nation, now author of Allow Me to Retort: A Black Guy’s Guide to the Constitution.
