A suspect wanted in connection with  explosive devices in New York and New Jersey is in police custody after a shootout in Linden, New Jersey. 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami is a naturalized U.S. citizen from Afghanistan. Donald Trump seizes on the incident to bolster his call for racial profiling. Hillary Clinton says Trump’s  approach serves as a recruiting tool for the Islamic State.  A  U.C. Berkeley Dean reverses course and reinstates a cancelled  student-initiated course on Palestine.  The initial decision to cancel the course caused an uproar on campus. Governor Jerry Brown signs into law a measure aimed at curbing methane  from dairy cows and  so called “black carbon” emissions that contribute to climate change. San Francisco Chinatown political powerhouse Rose Pak dies of natural causes at the age of 68.
