Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton cancels a fundraising trip to California after falling ill with pneumonia, while Republican nominee Donald Trump assails Clinton for referring to half his supporters as a “basket of deplorables”.  North Dakota authorities charge Democracy Now producer and host Amy Goodman with criminal trespassing for her work covering  Native American led protests against the Dakota Access pipeline. Democracy Now video captured pipeline guards unleashing dogs and pepper spray against the Native protesters. Governor Jerry Brown signs the nation’s first law requiring giving   farmworkers the same overtime pay protections as other workers. Civil rights groups Brown to sign a trio of bills to boost transparency and accountability for law enforcement. Imprisoned transgender Army whistleblower Chelsea Manning undertakes a hunger strike to win appropriate medical treatment for her gender dysphoria.
