French President Francois Hollande travels to Nice in the wake of last night’s mass killing by a truck driver who mowed down people celebrating Bastille Day. Although there’s been no claim of responsibility, French authorities are calling it an act of terrorism. Donald Trump selects right-wing favorite Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his vice presidential running mate. California education officials adopt new curriculum guidelines on teaching about the contributions of LGBT individuals and the gay rights movement. The National Park Service prepares to hold a ceremony commemorating the worst homefront disaster of World War II — the massive and deadly ammunition explosion at Port Chicago which killed more than 200 African American sailors; 50 survivors were court martialed for refusing to return to the same dangerous conditions.
