The first mass shooting of the year with double digit casualties — five dead, eight wounded after an  Iraq War veteran opens fire at the Fort Lauderdale, Florida airport.  President-elect Donald Trump says he “learned a lot” in his briefing with top intelligence officials, but is declining to say whether he accepts their assertion that Russia meddled in the election on his behalf. President Obama says he has no doubts. Northern and Central  California prepare for torrential rainfall this weekend and the possibility of flooding and mudslides. The death toll is mounting in Mexico in  protests over gasoline prices hikes. At least six people are dead, one thousand arrested and at least 300 stores looted.
