Republican Senators begin the process of trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare. Democrats warn against the repeal. California Democratic legislative leaders engage the services of former Obama Administration Attorney General Eric Holder to advise on legal strategy in likely battles with the Trump Administration over climate change, health care, civil rights and immigration. Oakland names its first woman to head the trouble Police Department. It’s had no chief at the helm for more than six months in the wake of a scandal involving police having sex with an exploited minor. The former prosecutor of Native American activist  Leonard Peltier is urging President Obama to grant him clemency, saying it is “in the best interests of justice.”
