A rough start for House Republicans who are forced to reverse their plan to gut the House Ethics office following a public furor and a scolding by Donald Trump. The President of the NAACP is arrested after  sitting in at the Mobile, Alabama office of Senator Jeff Sessions to protest his nomination as Attorney General.  A sold-out crowd at the Oakland kick-off of a “road show” to protest the incoming Trump Administration. Religious Studies scholar Huston Smith dies at his Berkeley home at the age of 97.
