President Trump defends his refugee and travel ban as he addresses U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida. The Justice Department has a 6 PM EST deadline to submit its legal briefs defending the ban. The Senate goes into 24 hour session as Democrats urge just one more Republican to vote against Education Secretary nominee Betsy DeVos and sink her confirmation. Two watchdog groups release a report card they say demonstrates Governor Jerry Brown doesn’t live up to his “green”  rhetoric.  San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee agrees to spend 5.4 million dollars to provide free tuition at CCSF to city residents — less than advocates had initially hoped for but more than Lee originally proposed. San Francisco State Senator Scott Wiener proposes legislation to amend California HIV criminalization laws passed during the 1980s and 1990s.
