President Obama and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe make a symbolic joint visit to Pearl Harbor at the site of the Japanese attack that drew the U.S. into World War II. Secretary of State John Kerry prepares to lay out his vision for ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in a speech tomorrow. The speech will come amid the continued furor over the U.S. abstention on a United Nations Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlements. Low-wage California workers are looking forward to more money in their pockets at the beginning of the New Year. The statewide minimum rises to $10.50 an hour –it will rise even higher in many cities.
