The Obama Administration announces it’s dismantling an inactive registry largely for people from Moslem countries. The action comes less than a month before Donald Trump takes office and means he would have to start from scratch if he wants to implement a registry of his own. Donald Trump uses twitter to call for expanded U.S. nuclear weapons capabilities, setting off alarm among peace activists and arms control groups. The San Francisco Police Commission approves a new use of force policy banning police neck holds and shooting at moving vehicles. The move comes over the objection of the police officer’s union, which  says it will sue. A federal judge declares a mistrial  in the corruption case of former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca after jurors say they are hopelessly deadlocked.
