Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump claims the party has never been more united, as top Republican leaders ponder an intervention to get the nominee back on track. Trump supporter Newt Gingrich calls the nominee’s behavior “self destructive”.  The U.S. Chemical Safety Board says a weak safety culture was responsible for hazardous chemical leaks by the Tesoro refinery in Martinez in  2014. In PG&E’s criminal trial, federal prosecutors cut  the penalties they were seeking related to safety violations by 90%.  Disability rights trailblazer Larry Paradis, who co-founded Disability Rights Advocates dies at the age of 57. Oakland celebrates a “night out for safety and liberation” in contrast to the night out for safety featuring police officers.
