The Islamic State claims responsibility for the fatal shooting of a police officer on the famous Champs Elysees of Paris. Three other people are wounded; the shooter is killed. Attorney General Jeff Sessions provokes the outrage of Hawaii’s Senators and others with his statement that he’s “amazed that a judge sitting on an island in the Pacific” can issue an order blocking Donald Trump’s ban on entry to the U.S. of nationals from six majority Muslim nations. For the first time, San Francisco city officials grant a permit and find official sponsors for 420 day, the unofficial celebration of marijuana which takes places each hear April 20 on Hippie Hill in Golden Gate Park. A federal judge rules  that the developer of a proposed coal export terminal can proceed with his lawsuit against the City of Oakland. The developer sued after the Oakland city council cited health and safety concerns and passed an ordinance barring the shipment of coal at the the Oakland Bulk and Oversize terminal.
