Drummer/composer Scott Amendola‘s latest recording is “Fade to Orange,” an ambitious project that was initially performed on April 15th, 2011, at the Paramount Theater in Oakland and then recorded in various studios in 2014. The core band is Amendola on drums, Nels Cline on guitar, and Trevor Dunn on electric bass. But then add in the 12 strings of the Magik*Magik Orchestra and the the Fade to Orange Winds (Heidi Trefethen, Ben Goldberg, Steve Adams, Jeff Cressman, and Rich Armstrong), plus percussionist extraordinaire William Winant and you have an orchestra like few others. The album includes remixes of the original piece by Yuka C. Honda, Mocean Worker, John Dieterich/Drake Hardin, and Beautiful Bells. Tonight, Scott with talk with host Derk Richardson about the project, and we’ll play from the vinyl–yes, an LP–version.
In the second hour, expect new music by guitarists John Schott and Henry Kaiser, pianist Keith Jarrett, the Southern California prog band Perfect Beings, and who knows what else?
