Tonight’s playlist dominated by Chuck Berry (October 18, 1926 – March 18, 2017): his original recordings of his classic and less well-known songs, and a slew of obvious and somewhat obscure cover versions. With quoted commentary from Ann Powers. Plus, birthday nods to David Olney, Keith Relf, Nick Lowe, and William Shatner. Hosted by Derk Richardson.

  1. Many programs on KPFA have given tributes to Chuck Berry. Dirk, I have to tell you, your tribute to the late great Chuck Berry was the best of all of them. Keep up the good work.

  2. Derk, this was a great tribute to Chuck! I especially loved Subterranean Homesick Blues coupled with Too Much Monkey Biz–I did the same thing on a homemade CD. We are in sync, which i knew before but now confirmed. Here’s another connexion: I put Born in the USSR after Born in the USA; possibly the Beatles did it in reaction/response?

Maybe you remember me from SFBG. In any case, I love your show and think you’re the best DJ around these days.
