Known for his work with Monica Pasqual & the Handsome Brunettes, Spark & Whisper, and others, Bay Area cellist Joshua McClain cites such influences as Andrew Bird, Zoe Keating, Mark Summer, Yo-Yo Ma, Sigur Rós, and Jimi Hendrix behind the looped, processed, and amplified soundscapes of his original music. Currently working on and fundraising for his second solo album, McClain brings his instrument and gear into the KPFA studio to demonstrate his art on the air, and he’ll talk with host Derk Richardson about his musical vision.
We might also find time to honor the passing of pianist Misha Mengelberg, Sister Sledge’s Joni Sledge, and blues harmonica giant James Cotton.
