Sarah Cahill–pianist, radio programmer, and new music impresario–visits The Hear and Now and talks with host Derk Richardson about her June 19 “Piano Party for Terry Riley at 80” and the June 21 annual Summer Solstice “Garden of Memory” walk-through concert at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland. A former KPFA programmer and current host of “RPM” on KALW, Cahill is a relentless champion of contemporary classical music: She plays it on her radio show, commissions it for her and others to perform, and promotes it in concerts, most notably in the annual columbarium extravaganza. Tune in to hear about her inspirations and motivations, and listen to the recorded music she chooses to share tonight. You’ll also hear new music by Meg Baird, Robin Flower & Libby McLaren, Orchestra Nostalgico, and other surprises.
