Jazz vocalist Lisa Engelken performs live in the KPFA studio and chats with host Derk Richardson.
A Kansas native who moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from Washington DC where she played in a ’90s cabaret-rock band called The Zimmermans, Engelken has recorded two jazz-vocal albums, 2010’s “Caravan” and 2013’s “Little Warrior.” She’ll be performing Saturday, June 13, at the Musically Minded Academy in Oakland, with pianist Frank Martin, bassist Sam Bevan, drummer Matt Swindells, and vibraphonist Dan Neville. Tonight she sings with Martin accompanying her on piano. Tony Ferro engineers.
