Bay Area singer-songwriter Joe Rut plays a live concert in the KPFA performance studio. Rut is celebrating the release of his seventh album, Nekkid, a solo acoustic set recorded live this March at Santo Recording in Oakland. While his previous album, Stolen Tools & Stereos, featured such special guests as mandolinist David Grisman, pedal steel great Bobby Black, and drummer Scott Amendola, Nekkid finds Rut in the raw, with just his acoustic guitar and occasional harmony vocals by Val Esway and harmonica by Sean Parnell. He goes almost solo on KPFA, as well, with Esway sitting in and Tony Ferro engineering the live sound. The set of sharp, witty, transgressive-folk songs draws from his deep catalog of songs and previews Rut’s July 26 concert, with Laura Benitez on the bill, at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley.
