Extreme Weather Takes a Toll on California Family Farms

From record-breaking wildfire to repeat droughts, extreme weather is taking an extreme toll on many Californians, not least of all the state’s small-scale farmers. Wildfire threatens homes and farmland. Smoke poses risks to health as well as crops. Lack of water forces tough decisions about what to grow and how to allocate resources.

Terra Verde host and Earth Island Journal Managing Editor Zoe Loftus-Farren discusses the many new and ongoing challenges these farmers face, as well as how to support them, with Evan Wiig, Director of Membership and Communications with the California Community Alliance with Family Farmers.
