The San Francisco Mime Troupe returns for another season of summer musical theater with a series of radio and podcast plays. Guest host Max Pringle speaks with Mime Troupe husband and wife creative team Michael Gene Sullivan and Velina Brown about “Tales of Resistance Volume 2: Persistence”.
Then historian Jonathan Daniel Wells joins us to discuss his new book “the Kidnapping Club: Wall Street, Slavery and Resistance on the Eve of the Civil War.” It’s the story of a coalition of elite 19th Century New York bankers, judges, politicians and police who abducted African-Americans, both fugitive slaves and freed people, and sold them into bondage in the Southern slave empire — an empire that would make both them and the city wealthy.
