On today’s Talkies:
A strong right-wing tilt among governments around the world, including here at home, has put the word fascism back into the conversation.
But an exact definition remains elusive. We know fascism when we see it, but no one definition seems to pin it down. Yale University Philosophy Professor Jason Stanley is in conversation with guest host Max Pringle to discuss it. Professor Stanley’s latest book is “How Fascism Works: The Politics of Us and Them.” In it, Stanley argues that we need to recognise fascist politics so as to better counteract it before it starts to seem normal.
Then, the 40th Annual SF International Jewish Film Festival starts next week with a social distancing and virtual flavor in this time of pandemic. Films from around the world will be presented online or in local drive-ins as will virtual online discussions with some brilliant filmmakers. That’s in the second half of the show.
