Rising Up With Sonali 5am

Facebook’s Future and Our Democracy

Is Facebook getting too big for its own good? The massive multi-billion user social media platform has come under fire for potentially enabling outside influence in the 2016 US elections, and for letting racist ad categories slip through its filters. On today’s show we’ll speak with Mara Einstein, a long-time expert on advertising and online platforms. Then, we’ll go to Houston, Texas. After the floodwaters from Hurricane Harvey have receded community advocacy and environmental organizations are worried that relief efforts will only empower the very fossil fuel industries that damaged infrastructure and people’s health. My guest Priscilla Villa of Earth Works Action will explain. Finally, author Rick Wartzman joins us to discuss his new book, The End of Loyalty: The Rise and Fall of Good Jobs. Hosted by Sonali Kolhatkar.
