As more than a hundred refugees from Central America arrived at the US border with Mexico earlier this week American immigration authorities have begun letting a handful trickle in through the border to process their asylum applications. On our show today Laura Carlsen will join us from Mexico for more. Then, as part of our on-going series Rising Up In the Streets, our field correspondent Nic Cha Kim files a report from this year’s May Day march in Los Angeles where immigrant workers rights were a focus. Finally we’ll go to Brussels to speak with an award winning author and public intellectual David Van Reybrouck about his new book Against Elections. Contrary to how it sounds, the book is actually about strengthening democracy using a powerful alternative to elections.
