The Supreme Court handed down yet another devastating ruling on Wednesday in the case of Janus V. AFSCME. The five conservatives ruled in favor of a man named Mark Janus who challenged his union dues. The decision, although expected, was still a blow to organized labor. On our show today we’ll turn to Jean Ross, co-President of National Nurses United for an analysis of the ruling, how the court’s analysis of a First Amendment violation doesn’t make sense, and what comes next. Then we’ll examine the bright spots in politics this week with the primary election wins on Tuesday by two strong progressives. Larry Stafford of the group Progressive Maryland will discuss Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s shocking win over top Democrat Joe Crowley in New York, and Ben Jealous’s win for the Democratic nomination for governor of Maryland.
