Alabama voters propel Democrat Doug Jones to victory in a closely watched special Senate election, narrowly rejecting accused pedophile Roy Moore. On our show today we’ll turn to Mother jones reporter Pema Levy who has been closely covering the election to find out if voter ID laws impacted voting, and how racial demographics of voters played out in the election. Then, we’ll re-air an interview we did in 2016 with author and academic Jeff Chang discussing his book, We Gon’ Be Alright: Notes on Race and Resegregation. In it, Chang links the various social trends and movements of our day, ultimately arguing that we are witnessing a great resegregation and that our salvation as a society lies in reversing that trend.
