Racism and Policing: New Study Finds Strong Correlation

A new study published in the Journal of the National Medical Association has found a strong correlation at the state level between structural racism and police killings of unarmed African Americans. On our show today we’ll speak with the lead author of the study, Aldina Mesic. Then, author Ramesh Srinivasan joins us to put into context Facebook’s recent algorithm change that reduces the influence of legitimate news sources. Finally, as Congress takes up a whirlwind week on immigration reform, we’ll cover a study focusing on trauma at the border. Psychology researcher Luz Garcini will share with us how and why undocumented immigrants face skyrocketing levels of trauma in border communities.
