HIV/Aids in the Black Community, New Tax Act Impact, Plus: Sexist Tech

First thing on UpFront this morning, Cat Brooks interviews Minister Rob Newells, Executive Director of AIDS Project of the East Bay in Oakland and Associate Minister at Imani Community Church. The two discuss the ways in which Oakland’s black community is directly impacted by HIV/Aids, and the systemic ways marginalized bodies suffer most from the virus. The GOP pushed 2017 Tax Act awaits Senate approval. Jonathan Kaplan joins UpFront to explain how the Tax Act will impact low and middle-income Californians. He is a senior policy analyst at the California Budget and Policy Center. Next, we hear from Sara Wachter-Boettcher, author of the book Technically Wrong: Sexist Apps, Biased Algorithms, and other Threats of Toxic Tech about where misogyny shows up inside technology.
