I heard the interview and thank you for carrying it. The Central Park 5 is a study in injustice. I would liked the interviewer to dig in a bit more to this story, however, and ask, for example, what were the objectives of this unit. That is, what did the teacher hope students would do and know as a result of it; and how she thought teaching it would further education. Perhaps it was that they would be more engaged in the reading of the material, it being an English class. But I think a teacher has to ask what a student will take away from a lesson such as this that will help them build lives and, in the case of what I assume are her students’ environments, how then can learn to protect themselves and, if engaged in an unjust situation, what to do.
